In March of 1899, Kaiser Wilhelm II of the German Empire ordered an invasion of New York City and Boston to prevent growing American influence in the Pacific and Central America. He didn’t want to conquer the US, just weaken it. The American-Spanish War was in full swing. With recent gains, it looked like the Americans were going to win. Germany wanted to prevent the US getting stronger in Latin America and the Pacific, so it become the regional power there instea.. Ironically, it was not carried out because the Imperial Navy was too weak. The plan was scrapped in 1906, and wasn’t uncovered again until 2002.
