In Japan, February 11th is celebrated as National Foundation Day. It is the day when Jimmu, descendant of the sun goddess Amaterasu and the storm god Susanoo, came from the southernmost Japanese island Kyushu to central Yamato, capturing it and starting his dynasty. Jimmu became Emperor Jimmu and the warring islands became Japan.
Even today, the imperial family claims descent from him and Amaterasu.
