historical-nonfiction:

The Czech Republic is landlocked, so to try and get access to the sea, it leases a section of the port in Hamburg, Germany. The lease, which was mandated by the Treaty of Versailles after World War I, is for 99 years – and it still has ten years to go!

It’s worth noting that Hamburg is not only Germany’s primary port, but also not located at the coast either, but at the Elbe, Germany’s second-largest river. This river flows all the way to the Czech Republic, and is (to some degree) shippable, so there’s a reason why Hamburg was chosen as the location.
