Zagreus was the first-born son of Zeus. His father seated him on the throne of heaven armed with thunderbolts when he was just a baby. The Titan gods stole into Olympus, distracted the child, and dismembered him using their knives. Athena recovered his heart, and the god was reborn through Semele, his new mother, as Dionysus.
