Anwar Sadat made Egypt the first Arab nation to achieve peace with Israel and recognze its right to exist. He did this in 1979 after losing the Yom Kippur War. President Sadat won the Nobel Peace prize, Egypt was suspended from the Arab League, and Sadat was assassinated at a military parade.
