On this day in psychology (November 2nd, 1899)

Otto Klineberg was born. An internationally renowned social psychologist, Klineberg was a leading figure within cross-cultural and international studies for more than fifty years. Klineberg is best known for his pioneering research on the social and cultural determinants of intelligence, the findings of which help inform the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on May 17, 1954 that racial segregation violated the Equal Protection and Due Process clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment.    

A truly eminent psychologist, Klineberg received the American Psychological Association (APA) Distinguished Award for Contributions of Psychology in the Public Interest in 1979 and the APA Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology in 1991.
