This is micro-seaweed from 1 billion years ago! That makes it the oldest known seaweed fossil (the previous-oldest was about 800 million years old). Named Proterocladus antiquus, they are barely visible without a microscope, at just 2 millimeters in length. That’s roughly the size of a flea.
