The first 3rd film was earlier than you would expect – it premiered in 1922! Called “The Power of Love,” the film was unfortunately a commercial failure.
Another cool fact: the filmmakers took advantage of this new technology to give the audience an option about what ending they wanted to see! An audience member could choose to look through only the red or green lens of the spectacles, depending on whether the viewer wanted to see a happy or tragic ending.
Sadly, all copies are believed to be lost.
