The Puritans Disliked Dancing For A Reason

In the small Cornish town of Broomfield in 1633 on All Saints Day, there was a maypole dance. Everyone had a good time, danced around the green, then headed home when it got dark. Except one couple. A little while later, the bell on the top of the maypole started ringing. Rhythmically. The couple was discovered…discovering each other…at the bottom of the maypole, unaware that their choice of location gave them away.

We know about this incident because they ended up being brought before the local court!
