Right now, there are about 62,000 homeless people living on the streets of New York City. This is a number larger than anytime since the 1930s, in the midst of the Great Depression.

Economist article, so you don’t have to just trust two sentences of a tumblr post.

That number only counts the people in shelters, and does not include homeless people who live and sleep on the streets. Over 1 in 200 people in NYC are homeless.
