You just wrote a post on a Mexican university being the oldest in the Americas. Even though this is a debeted topic, it's not the UNAM. In 1551 the Royal University of Lima was created by Royal permission. But there already was a university at Santo Domingo, but without royal or papal authorization. So the first university it's either from Perú or the Dominican Republic.

You are completely right in that UNAM is the oldest in North America. I’ve fixed the post in question!

Unfortunately, I think your sources might have misled on when the National Autonomous University of Mexico started. It seems to have been officially founded in 1551 as well, according to Encyclopaedia Britannica and Wikipedia. But the one in Lima was founded in May, whereas UNAM was founded in September. Just three months away from winning the title!
