November 9th 1967: Rolling Stone debuts
On this day in 1967, the first edition of Rolling Stone magazine was published. The first edition of the magazine featured John Lennon on the cover in his film ‘How I Won The War’. The magazine began as a music magazine which embraced the hippie culture of the 1960s. As the founder (and editor to this day) Jann Wenner said in the first edition, Rolling Stone “is not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music embraces.” To this day the magazine remains a major musical, political, and cultural publication.
