Pan American Airways’ first Sikorsky Clipper flying boats flying over Miami, circa 1934. Weighing 17 tons each, they were easily the largest commercial aircraft of their time. Pictured are the only ones of this model built. The Sikorsky Clippers had no wheels so take-off and landing had to be from the water. They were the first commercially successful airplanes, and carried 38 passengers and a crew of six.
