we-are-star-stuff: There’s one thing you may have begun to...
There’s one thing you may have begun to notice about digital design and 3D printing: whatever you think might happen in the future is probably going to advance far beyond whatever you envisioned or thought might be a cool idea.
And literally, one day you may be envisioning your entire world, and recording it as well, through completely artificially constructed, 3D printed eyeballs. You may be able to say goodbye to prescription glasses and contact lenses — and even your camera, as your original retina is replaced by a new and digital network contained inside your head, and even able to be swapped out for different versions.
A little like the concept of dentures, the team at Italian research studio MHOX explains this as quite simply the idea of completely removing the organs of sight that you were born with and replacing them with a digitally designed and 3D printed set that meets — and potentially surpasses — your needs.
Ultimately, you could choose new 3D printed eyeballs to heal a condition, eyeballs to ‘enhance’ and correct your vision, as well as eyeballs to process images and record what you are seeing in front of you. The network of nerves and impulses becomes an artificial, digitally constructed one that certainly sounds as if it offers more, including the option to have vision that is even better than 20/20.
The MHOX futuristic, 3D printed concept is aptly named EYE (Enhance Your Eye). With hopes to reverse blindness and give better vision to those who struggle with numerous conditions, MHOX turned to the same technologies that are making quality of life better for many in terms of using 3D printing for medical devices, implants, and a variety of prosthetics that can be better customized and are more affordable.
The Great Crater Hokusai
One of the largest young craters on Mercury, 114 kilometer (71 mile) diameter Hokusai crater's bright rays are known to extend across much of the planet. But this mosaic of oblique views focuses on Hokusai close up, its sunlit central peaks, terraced crater walls, and frozen sea of impact melt on the crater's floor. The images were captured by the MESSENGER spacecraft. The first to orbit Mercury, since 2011 MESSENGER has conducted scientific explorations, including extensive imaging of the Solar System's innermost planet. Now running out of propellant and unable to counter orbital perturbations caused by the Sun's gravity, MESSENGER is predicted to impact the surface of Mercury on April 30.

That “superheroes that should never get a movie” one is wrong about one of them. Squirrel Girl deserves a movie, she has so many powers. Superhuman strength and speed, enhanced sight, hearing and smell, razor sharp claws, prehensile tail, retractable knuckle spikes and the ability to communicate with squirrels. Not to mention that because she’s a huge fangirl, she knows a lot about the Marvel superheroes and villains.
I don’t know if you can tell that Squirrel Girl is my favourite Marvel hero ever…

April 18th 1775: Paul Revere’s ride
On this day in 1775, Boston patriot Paul Revere made his famous ‘Midnight Ride’ to warn of the arrival of British troops. On the night of April 18th, he was sent by Dr. Joseph Warren and instructed to ride from Boston to Lexington to warn revolutionaries Samuel Adams and John Hancock that British troops were coming to arrest them. He also arranged two lantern signals in Boston’s Christ Church to indicate that the British arrived ‘by sea’ rather than land, now immortalised in the famous phrase ‘one if by land, two if by sea.’ Revere rowed to Charlestown, and from there borrowed a horse and rode towards Lexington, stopping at houses along the way to spread the warning. However, he did not actually shout the famous phrase ‘the British are coming!’, as he needed to be discreet to avoid detection by British forces and their supporters. Upon being joined by two more riders once he reached Lexington and delivered his message, Revere and his peers headed for Concord, but were apprehended by the British. Revere was released, but had his horse confiscated and had to return to Lexington by foot. He was in Lexington when the famous battle of the Revolution broke out, which marked the first shots fired of the Revolution that would lead to an independent United States. Revere was not the only rider sent by the Sons of Liberty to warn of the imminent British arrival, but he has become the most well known. His fame mostly owes to an 1860 poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow which romanticised Paul Revere’s ride. The ride has become a famous story of American history, and Revere is exalted as an American hero.
