On Sept. 6, 1901, an anarchist from Michigan gunned down the popular president McKinley in the Temple of Music at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo. But where it happened is hardly preserved. That “Temple of Music” was basically a fancy temporary fair tent. It was already wearing down due to recent rains. It didn’t help that after the assassination, souvenir-hunters began taking chunks of wood from its sides. The Temple of Music was dismantled after the Pan-American Exposition closed. Buffalo put a plaque in its statehouse, where McKinley lay in state. Nothing exists on the exact spot McKinley was killed.
The Terror, a British ship, and all 129 of her crew, vanished while searching for a Northwest Passage. Thanks to a tip from a local Inuit hunter, Canadian authorities believe it has been found.
