On this day in 1912, Theodore Roosevelt was shot while making a campaign speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Roosevelt, who served as President from 1901 to 1909 was attempting to run for a third term for his Bull Moose Party. He lost the election to Democrat Woodrow Wilson. He was shot by John Schrank, a mentally disturbed saloon keeper, who claimed he was told to kill Roosevelt by the ghost of former President William McKinley. When Schrank shot Roosevelt, the bullet lodged in his chest after hitting his eyeglass case and a copy of his speech he was carrying in his jacket. Roosevelt decided to continue the speech, as he could tell from the lack of blood when he coughed that the bullet had not pierced his lung. He spoke for ninety minutes after being shot. Doctors concluded the wound was not serious and the bullet remained in Roosevelt until his death.

O Conde de St. Germain
O Conde de St. Germain é uma das pessoas mais misteriosas de todos os tempos. A sua vida esteve cheia de peripécias, invenções e histórias intrigantes. Muitos dizem que ele até conseguiu a vida eterna, até existem de relatos de pessoas do século passado, que afirmam que o viram, sendo que ele nasceu no final do século XVII.
Nascido na Transilvânia, em 1696, acredita-se que St. Germain seja filho de Francis II Rákóczi, um príncipe exilado, mas não há certezas absolutas. Há quem diga também que ele é filho da esposa viúva de Carlos II de Espanha, Pouco se ouviu falar de St. Germain durante a sua infância e educação, só foi notado pela sociedade em 1743, quando tinha cerca de 47 anos de idade. A lenda afirma que, em 1758, ele apareceu na cidade de Versalhes, onde ganhou fama pelo seu trabalho como lapidador e vendedor de tecidos que não perdiam a cor com o passar dos anos. Esta foi a primeira lenda que surge à volta do Conde. Na mesma altura, ele ganhou a confiança do Rei Luís XV de França, quando conseguiu, misteriosamente, reparar uma falha existente num diamante, sem que este perdesse uma única migalha. Poucos anos depois, St. Germain saiu da França e foi para a Bélgica, onde o seu nome ficou muito bem conhecido, porque, enquanto negociava com o governo belga, ele supostamente transformou ferro em ouro, para mostrar as suas capacidades.
Depois disso, ninguém soube mais do seu paradeiro, durante 11 anos. Em 1774, ele aparece na Bavária e começou a vender poções e elixires. Pouco tempo depois, começou a dedicar-se à caridade, doando remédios aos pobres.
Em 1784, quando ele devia ter 88 anos, uma idade extremamente incomum para a época, começaram a surgir notícias da sua morte, isto em 27 de Fevereiro. Passaram-se cinco anos desde os boatos da morte de St. Germain até que,um bilhete foi entregue a Condessa d'Adhemar, a dizer para que ela fosse a uma igreja e esperasse lá. Surpreendida, ela encontrou o Conde de St. Germain, que parecia ter 45 anos de idade, quando ele já devia ter passado dos 90. Outra pessoa que o viu e acabou surpreso foi Giacomo Casanova, que disse ter visto St. Germain em 1710 e reencontrou-o em 1775, com a mesma aparência. Segundo relatos, ele foi visto em Paris, no ano de 1835. Annie Besant afirma que viu o Conde em 1896 e C.W. Leadbeater supostamente encontrou-o em Roma, 1926. Actualmente, afirma-se que o Conde esteja a viver na Holanda.
Aparentemente, St. Germain era um alquimista e passou dos 200 anos de idade, segundo os relatos já apresentados. Este assunto faz-me lembrar de uns vídeos que vi ontem, que possuem imagens de pessoas que viviam em tempos passados, muito parecidas com celebridades actuais:
