Lightning Eclipse from the Planet of the Goats
Thunderstorms almost spoiled this view of the spectacular 2011 June 15 total lunar eclipse. Instead, storm clouds parted for 10 minutes during the total eclipse phase and lightning bolts contributed to the dramatic sky. Captured with a 30-second exposure the scene also inspired one of the more memorable titles (thanks to the astrophotographer) in APOD's now 22-year history. Of course, the lightning reference clearly makes sense, and the shadow play of the dark lunar eclipse was widely viewed across planet Earth in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. The picture itself, however, was shot from the Greek island of Ikaria at Pezi. That area is known as "the planet of the goats" because of the rough terrain and strange looking rocks.

The strongest hurricane ever directly recorded was Hurricane Patricia in 2015. The storm started off the western coast of Mexico in October 2015, unexpectedly strengthening into a monster category 5 as it approached land. A Hurricane Hunter aircraft measured maximum sustained winds of 210 mph on the morning of October 23, 2015, the strongest sustained winds ever recorded in a tropical cyclone in history. And it got worse: Patricia reached its record of 215 mph shortly after the plane left the storm.
Thankfully, Patricia weakened somewhat over the next day before it made landfall with 150 mph winds in a sparsely populated region of Mexico.

Um fenômeno aéreo peculiar foi avistado em países de todo o mundo nos últimos anos.
Apontados como ‘vortexs de fumaça’, esses anômalos anormais foram avistados por centenas de pessoas em todo o mundo, desde regiões remotas da Sibéria, a rodovia M62 da Inglaterra.
No caso deste último, que foi relatado apenas alguns dias atrás, o fenômeno misterioso foi detectado por tantas pessoas que acabou sendo coberto por agências de notícias internacionais.
Uma testemunha, Kimberley Robinson, descreveu como “a coisa mais estranha que já vi”.
“Eu e meu namorado estavam dirigindo e percebemos um anel voador preto no céu”, disse ela.
“Parecia um pouco esfumaçado, mas o formato era um anel sólido. Nunca tínhamos visto nada assim antes e ninguém sabe o que é”.
Uma observação similar também foi relatada no Missouri, alguns dias antes, e também houve avistamentos sobre o Cazaquistão, Leamington Spa e Flórida nos últimos quatro anos.
Então, o que são exatamente esses anéis de fumaça pretos peculiares?
Longe de ser evidência de visitantes extraterrestres, parece que esse fenômeno particular pode realmente ter uma explicação muito mais real.
“O chamado vortex de fumaça pode ??surgir quando você passa por uma estrutura circular como uma chaminé”, disse o ex-investigador de OVNIs, Nick Pope.
“Então, esses efeitos estranhos podem ser causados ??por acidentes ou mesmo por design”.
“Neste último ponto, eles podem ser criados como uma espécie de efeito pirotécnico e seria interessante saber se existiam festivais ao ar livre na área em questão”.
