A Split Ion Tail for Comet Lovejoy E4
What's happened to Comet Lovejoy? In the pictured image, a processed composite, the comet was captured early this month after brightening unexpectedly and sporting a long and intricate ion tail. Remarkably, the typically complex effect of the Sun's wind and magnetic field here caused the middle of Comet Lovejoy's ion tail to resemble the head of a needle. Comet C/2017 E4 (Lovejoy) was discovered only last month by noted comet discoverer Terry Lovejoy. The comet reached visual magnitude 7 earlier this month, making it a good target for binoculars and long duration exposure cameras. What's happened to Comet Lovejoy (E4) since this image was taken might be considered even more remarkable -- the comet's nucleus appeared to be disintegrating and fading as it neared its closest approach to the Sun two days ago.

The Great Wall of China isn’t the only great wall in Asia. India has one too! Rajasthan’s Kumbhalgarh is the second longest wall in the world at over 22 miles (36 km). The wall encircles a fort, which contains over 360 temples! The wall was built during the course of the 1400s by Rana Kumbha who ruled the Mewar Kingdom.
Interesting note about Rana Kumbha: he was the first Hindu ruler to be given the title “Hindu-suratrana” ( Hindu Sultan ). It was a title given to him by the Muslim rulers of Delhi and Gujarat after all three joined forces against another Muslim sultan who attacked Mewar.

Os estudiosos russos têm avançado na decodificação das páginas do misterioso texto medieval.
O códice enigmático, descoberto pela primeira vez em um mosteiro italiano pelo livreiro Wilfrid Voynich em 1912, contém 240 páginas de personagens e imagens estranhas e indecifráveis.
Escrito em pergaminho fino de couro de bezerro, o livro foi datado do século 15, no entanto, todos os esforços para saber o significado de seu conteúdo até agora resultou em fracasso e frustração.
Uma solução para este mistério tem permanecido tão distante que alguns pesquisadores acreditam que o manuscrito foi realmente criado como uma farsa projetada para enganar coletores de livros do século XV.
Agora, porém, uma equipe de cientistas do Instituto de Matemática Aplicada da RAS na Rússia determinou, por meio de análise estatística, que 60% do livro é realmente escrito em duas línguas – inglês e alemão – e que todas as vogais e espaços foram deliberadamente removidos.
Os restantes 40% do texto é pensado para ser escrito em italiano, espanhol ou latim.
Dado que as imagens em suas páginas descrevem o que parecem sementes e legumes, nem todos da equipe estão convencidos de que o conteúdo do livro seja algo que vale a pena decifrar.
“Eu não sei por que o entendimento do texto pode ser importante hoje porque, a julgar pelos desenhos, ele explica em que parte do ano você precisa semear sementes de papoula para obter mais tarde o ópio”, disse o co-autor do estudo, Yuri Orlov.
