explicadinho: Actually, Natives were in fact enslaved, however a) they tended to die off too quickly b) were too resistant and c) their knowledge of the land allowed them to escape a bit easier than african slaves who a) were unable to communicate very well with others (slaves and whites alike) b) didn't know the land well enough to escape and c) their strong immunity to malaria made them better targets of slavery. Feel free to check me on this, though!
