Eleanor Roosevelt and Amelia Earhart were close friends. One they snuck out of the White House to go to a party together, and another time, they went on a joyride from DC to Baltimore with Earhart piloting the stolen airplane. After that excursion, Roosevelt obtained a student permit to learn to fly. She never did get around to it though.
