Lebanon’s thinnest building is nicknamed “The Grudge” by locals in Beirut. It was built specifically to block the building behind it from having a view of the ocean – and thus, blocking the other building from being worth something. According to residents in the neighborhood, The Grudge, or ‘al-Ba'sa’ in Arabic, was built in 1954.
The building is squished into a 120 meter-square block of land; it stands just 14 meters high and no wider than a meter (or 3 feet). But from the front it appears wider than it actually is, thanks to the numerous balconies and windows that provide the impression of spacious rooms behind.
