The Northern Bald Ibis was one of the earliest officially protected species in the world. The Archbishop of Salzburg decreed it a protected species in 1504! Despite the decree, the Northern Bald Ibis still died out in Europe and today only about 500 wild birds remain in Morocco and Syria.
They have them at my most local zoo.
When we go they are my favourites to visit.
We refer to them as The Flock Of Plague Doctors in my house
Who do we have to petition to get the Northern Bald Ibis renamed as “Plague Doctor Bird”
