The oldest known mathematical object is the Lebombo bone. It is named after the Lebombo Mountains of Swaziland where it was discovered. The baboon fibula dates to approximately 35,000 BCE, and is marked with twenty-nine precise, incised markings. The twenty-nine markings might be tracking a lunar calendar. Or it could be tracking a menstrual cycle.
