Skhul Cave, in Israel, the site of mankind’s earliest ritual burial. (At least, the earliest one that historians and archaeologists agree on.) The remains buried here date back 130,000 years and its red-clay-touched remains show that the bereaved felt the need for some kind of death acknowledgement.
