Not only is the salamander a new species, named Palaeoplethodon hispaniolae, but it is the first ever salamander found preserved in amber. And that’s not all! This poor little guy is also evidence that once upon a time, long long ago, salamanders called the Caribbean home. That’s exciting for zoologists because no salamanders live in the Caribbean today!
