105 years ago, the first human to reach the south pole arrived – Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen. Famously, the second humans to reach the south pole arrived just 34 days later. The British team lead by Robert Falcon Scott reached their goal, but too late, then died on the return journey. Historians and explorers are still wondering what made one mission succeed and the other fail, with theories ranging from that Amundsen was trained by Inuits, to that Scott failed to eat his dogs.
