From March 8–11, 1979, the year of the Iranian Revolution, women gathered to protest Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s decree requiring all women to wear a veil in public. Female photographer Hengameh Golestan (born 1952, Tehran) captured the last days that Iranian women were photographed out in the open without the veil, as well as the first widespread, vocal outcry against the Ayatollah Khomeini since his return to power.
