A duck-shaped water holder. In China, Korea, and Japan ink was mixed personally by each writer. An inkstick or inkstone would be ground with a tiny amount of water to produce usable ink. The duck’s beak holds a lotus spray, which artfully conceals where the water would be poured from. This particular water holder is Korean, made of with their famed celadon glaze. Circa 1100s.
