The oldest sacred Sanskrit writings are the Vedas. They were written over a period of 1,000 years, according to tradition, starting around 1400 BCE. The Vedas are considered to be older than the sacred writings of any other major existing religion. Only the ancient Egyptian pyramid texts are older.
