Banate of Bosnia was a medieval state that began in the 1130s, located in most of what is today Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as parts of Dalmatia, Serbia and Montenegro. Although technically a feudal vassal of the Kingdom of Hungary,the Banate of Bosnia was effectively an independent state. It lasted until 1377, and ended not with a conquest but with a coronation. In 1377 Bosnian King Tvrtko I was crowned and the Banate became a Kingdom.
