The weirdest and worst of the responses to my American Civil War question

(Yes, I enjoy reading comments on my posts. And sometimes they get crazy.)

sexint: …You’re just pretending to be dumb, right? The American Civil War was fought chiefly over the survival of the Union versus the rise of the Confederacy. Slavery was the match that lit the powder keg, but wasn’t the reason itself for the war.  Slavery had been the issue since the Revolution. It took a giant compromise, and the omission of the very word “slave” from the Constitution, to keep the southern states from walking out, that’s how important slavery was to them from the get-go.

purple-rose-seal-cat: Nah, that’s backwards. The cotton states were pissed off at the North for fixing to go around emancipating slaves whose labor was necessary in maintaining the farms and mills. So as the tension eventually boils over… I stopped reading after you tried to call plantations “farms” and claimed the south had any real “mills” before the American Civil War

inescapableville: An historical period can never be explained or described in two sentences. Slavery was a major issue, but some would say preserving the union was Lincoln’s main motive. There were monumental piles of money in the balance. The best way is to read several different good books on the topic and form your opinion. I thought the seceding states’ motives mattered too, but I could be wrong about that one. Maybe Lincoln started the war all by his lonesome.

bigstache; fuckn nig nogs Huh?

thornodinson: What the hell? This Blog should be called “historical fiction”. Any quick skimming of the personal journals or diaries of the major political heads of the time will show you a myriad or reasons the war was fought, least of which was slavery Slavery was the least important reason for seceding? Really? Also, your mast-head is racist and using SAT vocabulary words doesn’t make you intelligent.
