The world’s oldest sunglasses were, in fact, snowglasses. This pair was discovered on Baffin Island, in Canada and dates between 1200 and 1600 CE. Their slits reduce the glare of sunlight reflecting off the snow. This was a serious problem, which could over a long time make hunters blind and unable to feed their families. We know this because snowglasses are still used today, by Inuits.
